Throwback Thursday

I know I have been very remiss in my blogging (my oldest baby brother, Andrew gently and patiently pointed this out to me) and I will try to mitigate this behavior. I admit to being busy but truly the lion's share of this lack of blogging stems from poor time management and a healthy dose of laziness. Have mercy on me.

My brother did mention that if I could not supply a full blog post then perhaps a Wordless Wednesday would do nicely.

Well, since Wednesday has just passed us by, I cannot do a Wordless Wednesday for my brother. But as I was looking at some photographs on my computer (trying to get some motivation for a new post) I saw this one from my past.

It made me think I would like to start something new for my blog post lineup...Throwback Thursday!

This photograph is the baptism day of my middle baby brother, Michael.

Front Row: (kneeling) Uncle Chris, my brother Andrew, me, my sister Lori, my sister Jennifer.
Middle Row: My sister Lucinda, my sister Kathleen (barely visible behind Lori), my Uncle Jim.
Back Row: My mom (holding my brother Michael), my maternal grandma, my Uncle Richard.

Now, let me break down this photograph...

Look at my brother Andrew in the first row. He looks like he is not too sure if he is all that comfortable being within Uncle Chris's clasp. My sister Lori is effecting a "Popeye" countenance. All she needs is a pipe. The sailor-like outfit Lori is wearing (perhaps the reason behind the "Popeye" face) would be passed down to me the next year. I remember it being uncomfortable. It was hot, itchy and the neckline would choke you. Probably the real reason why Lori is pulling the "Popeye" face.

In the middle row my sister Lucinda looks pleasant. I Like her beautiful blue dress. I don't remember wearing that pretty dress but I am sure it was passed down through the ranks. My sister Kathleen is peaking around Lori. If Lori was not wearing the hat I think we could have gotten a bit more of Kathleen's face to show. Uncle Jim looks happy.

In the back row my mom looks amazing for just having a baby and being the mother of seven children (almost exactly a year later she would have my youngest baby brother, Samuel). Of course, baby Michael is not doing much in Mom's arms. My mom's mom looks great too. She does not look like a grandma (my Uncle Chris was just two years older than my oldest sister Lucinda). Finally my Uncle Richard, my mom's older brother. He looks happy too. I do not know why my mom's dad was not in the photograph. I know my dad was taking the photo.

Growing up Catholic it seemed as though we were attending some one's baptism every year. Some years we attended multiple baptisms. When my youngest baby brother was born there were two cousin born that same month also.

Here you go Andrew. Thanks for the gentle nudge.

  2. You are most welcome. I relish the idea of a throw-back Thursday. What a great time and place to be raised. I am blessed to have a wonderful family.

  3. Don't get me started on wearing you hand-me-downs, being the first boy after five girls.
