WOW-WHEE 3D

The Colonel and Yam have been interested in 3D printing, so with some online research under his belt, The Colonel recently purchased a 3D printer. He bought a Creality Ender 3 3D Printer. It was just over $200.

He and Yam successfully built the 3D printer (despite the vague, enclosed instructions) in 1-1/2 hours.

The printer came with some white, plastic filament. We wanted something small and less time-consuming for our first printing. We chose an owl. It would take around 23 minuets to print.

Yam threaded the filament into the extruder. She and The Colonel balanced/leveled the bed of the printer and through the computer, told the printer which file to print.

Once the extruder and bed of the printer reached their desired temperatures, the printer began creating the 3D owl.

We circled our chairs around the printer like wagons in a wagon train. We could not look away from the magic of the 3D printer. The printing process was mesmerizing. The extruder was building, layer by layer, a little, white owl.

The detail on the owl was amazing for such a small object. Our first printing project was a roaring success!

The items that can be printed are numerous. There is a website called Thingiverse that has many digital designs to chose from.

What to print next?
